The Merriam Webster Dictionary (2015) defines Self-esteem as: “a feeling of having respect for yourself and your abilities.” One’s self-esteem is a pure reflection of their thoughts, behaviors, and feelings. Unfortunately, we live in a world where many girls and women struggle with their level of self-esteem. Petra believe this is due to social influences as well as not being in touch with their inner self for whatever reason that may be. Knowing this, she was lead to write and self-publish My Self- Discovery Journal.
The purpose of My Self-Discovery Journal is to encourage readers to discover who they truly are with hopes of increasing their self-esteem and self-awareness. She believes this journal will help individuals see that in order for one to increase their level of self-esteem and self-awareness they must first change their process of thinking.
Petra had the opportunity to teach a three-week course using My Self-Discovery Journal to 29 females at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences (Autonomous) located in Kerala, India. This course measured their level of self-esteem and self-awareness using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (1985) along with the Self-Discovery Questionnaire before and after the course. Results indicated that the Self-Discovery Journal increased the students level of self-esteem and self-awareness.
